Academic research and scientific discoveries create opportunities for breakthrough technologies. I will use the examples of two systems for medical diagnostics developed by the Scope Fluidics group - PCR|ONE offering rapid, fully automated genetic detection of infectious agents, and BacterOMIC offering comprehensive characterization of antibiotic susceptibility of bacterial pathogens. I will describe the path from the idea to the product and the challenges we faced along the way.
